welcome back to moscow
This week is extremely busy, so I won't have a chance to write about Irkutsk or post pictures of the trip till this weekend.
But I can briefly describe my return to Moscow. We returned to find all the trees in full bloom even though they had just begun when we left. I came to my new apartment to find two friends of another Fulbrighter had crashed in my bed the night before because they had overstayed their welcome at said Fulbrighter's. They remind me of a certain two nearly inseparable Gemstone students I knew at Maryland, except that they drink a lot and lack ambition. I also found out that we're a few days into our annual 20-day period of no hot water. In Russia this counts as two weeks, but as far as we're concerned, it's three weeks. You see, in Russia everyone has 20 days per year of no hot water while they service the central boilers in your neighborhood. At least I'll miss the last few days of it as well when I go to Europe soon. In the meantime, I'm getting good at boiling water and washing up from a basin.

Ahem. eriC seems to think that these "two inseparable Gemstone students" may be someone I or he might know. Care to comment? As I lack a great deal of ambition, I know I am not implicated by that comment.
BTW, guess what? I was in Alaska the other week--I expected to maybe see you there, since I was making up half of the distance between us.

I thought it would be obvious who I was talking about, but perhaps not. They're both jokesters, especially when put together. And I doubt either reads my blog, especially since I'm only barely in touch with one of the two today.
