peruvian food, slippery tiles
I met the regional resource information officer for Russia, Moldova, Ukraine, and Belarus—who's based at the US embassy in Moscow—for dinner tonight. I believe the restaurant was supposed to have Peruvian food, but it seemed more like seafood fusion than anything else. The supposedly national drink of Peru had vodka in it, which also makes me skeptical. Anyway, the dinner meeting was good and productive. We're cooking up interesting plans and learned a lot from each other.
I'm continually amazed at the Russian predilection for smooth indoor tiling, as you might find in a kitchen in a large American home, or in a large event room. The thing is, Russians like to use it, say, in malls, foyers, and even outside buildings. It makes walking in the winter weather even more challenging. If I ever get tired of electronic publishing, maybe I'll start a business selling outdoor tiling—you know, with traction—in Russia. Hopefully the roughness won't offend their taste so much that they won't buy it.
