- scholarship: primarily for undergraduate study, a full
scholarship covers all of tuition, plus possibly other expenses such as
room and board, travel, or books. A partial scholarship does not
cover the entire cost of education.
- fellowship: primary for graduate (British: post-graduate) study,
in which case it is essentially a full scholarship that allows the recipient
to study without having to work part-time as a research or teaching assistant.
Fellowships also exist for those who already hold Ph.D.s, allowing
them to do research without needing to teach at the same time. In some fields,
post-Ph.D. fellowships are very common before receiving regular university
teaching positions.
- grant: the most general term, including any type of payment for
education or research. These may not be tied to an academic calendar at all,
possibly just helping to pay for research expenses.

- As we decided two weeks ago, the medical sense of visceral is not
present in normal use. It just means "based on intuition rather than
observation".
- hardy (bold, brazen, robust) vs. hearty (exuberant,
exhibiting good health, vigorous)
