final photos
My last pictures from Moscow:
The House of Friendship with Peoples of Foreign Countries:
They were renovating this building almost the entire time I was in Russia. According to my Lonely Planet guidebook, it was built in 1899 for a merchant who was inspired by a Moorish castle in Spain.
The Melnikov House, which is quite difficult to find and fit into a camera lens from any angle:
You can get your picture taken next to a Russian peasant, Lenin, or Nicholas II, but if you're like me and want to get a shot of all three for free, the kid with the sign will stand in front and block the view of Lenin. Also, the peasant will glare at you, shake his finger and head to indicate that you're supposed to pay first for the right of taking a photo.
Not far from where I lived, an interesting building on Чистопрудный бульварь:
Here's a close-up:
I went back and visited my host family the day before I left, and took some pictures from their balcony so you can compare August with January. Here's the university (in January I photographed it from a different direction, and on the ground):
Perhaps you'll recognize this shot:
Compare with January:
Wow, that's a total of 199 photos from the term of my Fulbright grant! Hope you've enjoyed them, and the accompanying text.

I tell ya, them Russians sure know how to build their universities.
Here's hoping Michigan treats you better than it treated me... well, let me rephrase that. Here's hoping your job in Michigan treats you better than mine did.
