spring has sprung, Novodevichy, Rumyantsev
Spring has finally arrived in Moscow. Not only are the days getting longer, but we've recently had more clear weather than cloudy weather. The sun seems so ... bright. I'm seeing my first Moscow grass this year (it's all brown, of course) and experiencing springtime грязь, which is different from winter грязь only in its snow content. It's an untranslatable term between "mud" and "dirt" but usually referring to winter precipitation that's still melting. In any case, yucky.
On Sunday I went to Novodevichy Convent and was ably assisted in photography once again by Аня.
See! Grass is showing through!
Note the far side of the tower has been restored while the inside is yet to be done. Lots of restoration is still happening, but the parts that have been restored are in excellent condition. The convent is a UNESCO site, so I think the site gets lots of UN money.
Unfortunately, the Smolensk Cathedral was closed for restoration.
The next two days I'll be at the Rumyantsev Readings conference.

So you know, back in Michigan, spring is trying to get sprung. It's warming slightly - temps in the mid to upper 40s - and just about all of the snow has melted. There still are a few piles here and there.
But I'd much rather be in snow piles in Moscow than the joys of Port Huron, Mich.
