the big city
If you read Russian, I highly recommend you check in on the Большой Город [Big City] website/blog, which accompanies the free magazine by the same name. The dry sense of humor just kills me.
That reminds me: "Sex and the City" is called "Sex in the Big City" in Russian. I see where they're coming from—after all, it's not exciting to have a television series about being single in Ufa, for example. But how come in English nobody confuses New York with, say, Tulsa? ;-)

Kev, English speakers don't confuse New York with Tulsa because Tulsa is a Spanish word.
Silly.
Actually, it might be a native American word, for all I know.
I don't have any photo requests for ya, DJ, but it certainly wouldn't hurt my eyes if you had a few photos of Moscow's fairer sex on your site ;-)

"Девушка, вы такая красивая! Можно, я вас сфотографирую?" %)))))

According to Wikipedia, Tulsa comes from a Creek Indian name.
Photos of the fairer sex? Hmm ... I could take Olga's advice on how to ask permission to take a photo, but I'm not sure what would be the best intonational pattern to use for the first sentence in order to elicit the desired response.
I'm hoping one of these days I'll stumble upon a row of black Mercedes sedans with tinted windows, with a bunch of New Russian men standing around them, wearing black blazers, dark-colored turtlenecks, and black pants and smoking cigarettes. Then if I can be discrete, I'll take a picture. But I'm pretty scared to do so.
Actually, the more common sight is a driver sitting in such an idling Merecedes, apparently waiting for someone to come out of some building and get in. It seems that half of the men in Moscow are such drivers. The other half are security guards. In commercial establishments they also wear black blazers and turtlenecks or maybe suits; in non-commercial establishments they have a drab-green security guard uniform.
