socializing, provocative art

I should start using names to keep the characters in my life clear. Rebecca (who visited from St. Petersburg last weekend) has some good pictures online, including one of us (scroll down):

Anyway, I didn't end up at the concert yesterday with Francesca (previously referred to as "said Fulbrighter") because they sold out of tickets. If I remember correctly, she said the sign in the ticket office window said, "There aren't any more tickets, and there won't be any more!" So we just hung out.

Yesterday and today I took in more of the Biennale. At the exhibits I saw today, photography was curiously allowed (usually the privilege costs extra or just isn't allowed at all). So I took some pictures of my favorite pieces:

Sorry for the interference from the flash.

One in a series of slightly racy photos.

For those not familiar with 1930s Soviet art, this is a spoof of the famous Worker and Collective Farm Worker statue.

Despite all the vagueness that comes along with copyright across jurisdictions, it appears that both the act of photographing these works in the Russian Federation and the act of publishing them on a server in the US are both copyright violations. In case you were wondering. But as far as I know, the viewing of an unauthorized reproduction is not illegal, so you shouldn't be worried that the authorities will come knocking on your door. But I'm not an attorney, so nothing I say should be considered legal advice.
